Local careers event set to inspire young people to pursue a career in health and care

Schools and colleges across Bradford district and Craven are invited to bring their students along to Careers Fair 2020 on Wednesday 4 March 2020. The event is all about giving local students a taste of the different career opportunities available in the health, care, independent and voluntary and community sectors.

Professionals from across Bradford district and Craven will be coming together at Bradford University Student Central to talk to students about different careers on offer and the routes into the wide variety of roles available in the sector.

The event is aimed at students aged 13-18 who are making their GCSE and A Level subject choices, and who might be starting to think about university or apprenticeships.

As well as the main careers fair, the event will give students the opportunity to take part in interactive activities and workshops, giving them a taste of the practical side of a career in health and care. The event will also look at wider issues which support people in developing a career such as health and wellbeing, relationships and living in the wider world.

Brendan Brown, Chief Executive, Airedale General Hospital Foundation Trust and the senior responsible officer for workforce for Bradford district and Craven commented: “This event is a great opportunity for both schools and young people to find out about the wide range of career opportunities available to them in health, care, the voluntary and community and independent sector. There is so much more on offer than the traditional roles that people think of. As well as clinical roles such as doctors, nurses and midwifery, there are other direct care roles such as physiotherapy, radiology, occupational therapy and social work as well as vital support and business admin roles in IT, finance, and research.

“For schools, this is a one stop shop event  to give their students the chance to talk to a wide range of staff working in health and care about their own career journey and the kind of personal skills and grades/qualifications they will need for various roles.

“There are some amazing opportunities for students in our sector. We want to support young people to enter into these rewarding and fulfilling careers. It’s fantastic that organisations from across our health and care system have come together for this event.”

Careers Fair 2020 takes place on Wednesday 4 March 2020 at Student Central, Bradford University, Longside Lane, Bradford BD7 1DP. Schools and colleges are invited to choose one of two sessions, 9.30am to 11.45am or 12.30pm to 2.45pm.
