Help us develop health services for our local communities

People are being given the chance to learn more about how they can have their say on developing health services for local communities.

Bradford district and Craven clinical commissioning groups (CCG) are working with Community Action Bradford and District to run information sessions to help people learn more about patient participation groups, patient networks and GP practice volunteers.

The free sessions will offer practical tips and advice on the role patient participation groups, patient networks and practice health champions and how they can help to develop health services and support local communities to enhance their health and wellbeing. The sessions will also be useful for existing member of patient participation groups or patient networks.

Health chiefs say the role of patients in developing local services is a hugely important one, providing a link between primary care services and the public.

David Richardson, lay member for patient and public involvement for Bradford City and Bradford Districts CCGs said: "Patient participation groups and patient networks help to give a patient perspective and insight on local health services and help GP practices to engage with their local community. Alongside other roles, such as practice health champions, they also carry out research into the views of those who use their GP practice and organise health promotion events. They are rewarding roles and can give great satisfaction. They are also vital to help healthcare professionals improve health outcomes for patients."

The next information sessions take place on Thursday 13 June, between 1.00pm and 3.00pm and the following Tuesday, 18 June, between 6.00pm and 8.00pm. Both sessions take place at the Carlisle Business Centre, Carlisle Road, Bradford, BD8 8BD.

Further sessions will run on Wednesday 3 July between 1.00pm and 3.00pm and on Tuesday 16 July, between 6.00pm and 8.00pm. Again both sessions take place at the Carlisle Business Centre in Bradford.

Places can be booked by emailing pauls@cabad.org.uk or by calling 01274 781222.
