From 1 November 2016, the CCGs in Bradford are starting to implement a new scheme which means that pharmacies will no longer be able to order medicines on behalf of patients. This means that patients will need to order their repeat prescription directly from their GP practice. It is anticipated that all GP practices in Bradford will have phased in this change in by 31 January 2017.

The aim is to empower patients to have greater control and understanding of their medicines. It will also help to improve the quality and safety of services to patients and eliminate prescription waste.

Patients can save time by ordering their repeat prescriptions securely online or by nominating a trusted family member/carer to do this on their behalf, if they wish. This online service is known as ‘SystmOnline’ and is available via GP practice websites or by downloading the free ‘SystmOnline’ app for mobile phones/tablets. It also enables patients in Bradford to book their GP appointments online at any time. For more information about online services click here.

Patients or their carers/family members can still order prescriptions in writing, or by handing in the tear-off part of their repeat prescription to the GP surgery. Practices will continue to send the prescriptions directly to the nominated chemist of patients’ choice, who will then dispense the medicines as usual.

See the attached patient information leaflet to understand what these changes could mean for you.
