Find out more about dental services available to you in our area, how to register with a dentist and how much you can expect to pay for treatment.
Your dentist will agree with you whether your treatment is under the NHS, private or a mixture of both and give you an estimate of the cost.
Dentists check your tooth and gum health. They also teach people to look after their teeth and gums to prevent problems. They can also restore teeth damaged or lost by decay, trauma or other reasons. It is important to attend dental appointments on a regular basis to maintain good oral health.
You can choose a dentist that is convenient for you, near your home or place of work. To find a dentist, visit the NHS services finder. It will also advise you whether the dental practice is accepting new patients and their contact details. Before making your appointment, it is important to confirm the services that they provide.
If you have tried to register with several dental practices and you cannot find a dentist accepting NHS patients, the West Yorkshire Area Team should be able to let you know about available services in your area. You can contact the West Yorkshire Area Team on 0113 8252700.
The price for dental treatment is set by the government. Charges for treatment are the same no matter which dental practice you go to. The amount you pay depends on the treatment you need. More information about dental treatment charges can be found on the NHS website.
If you need urgent dental treatment, your usual dental practice may be able to see you or direct you to another dental service. If you do not have a regular dentist or your emergency is out of hours, please call NHS 111 who will be able to advise you. They will also be able to advise about the cost of treatment.
The NHS website has further information about dentists, including a services finder, information about charges and what is and is not included as part of NHS dental treatment.
There are also a number of national dentistry organisations that provide useful information, advice and guidance:
