Many men find it hard to share their problems rather than getting support when it is needed. Anyone can be affected by mental health issues but you might be surprised to know that nearly four in five suicides (78%) are by men and it is the biggest cause of death for men under the age of 35.

There are a number of risk factors that have been linked to an increased risk of poor mental health:

  • previous family or personal history of mental health problems
  • drug and alcohol use
  • serious medical illness
  • isolation or loneliness
  • unemployment, homelessness, conflict or other stressful life situations.

It is important to talk to someone if you or someone you know is at risk. There are a number of mental health services available in the Bradford area who can provide advice and help you in a time of crisis.
